Festival du Film Hongkongais de Paris
(Hong Kong Film Festival of Paris)

2022 – ongoing | Film Festival | Paris & Annecy, France

My Role: Founding Curator & Chief Organizer

The Hong Kong Film Festival in Paris is the only film festival in France dedicated entirely to Hong Kong cinema. It presents a curated selection of cinematic classics and recent works by both established and emerging Hong Kong filmmakers. Through screenings and cultural dialogues, the festival offers a unique platform to share Hong Kong’s cinematic voice with European audiences. In partnership with the City Hall of Paris (Mairie de Paris), the festival expanded beyond the capital in 2023 and 2024 through a regional collaboration with L’Auditorium Seynod, an official cultural venue of the City of Annecy. These editions extended the festival’s vision to new audiences, deepening its mission of fostering cross-cultural dialogue and connection. The programme is made possible through close collaboration with Hong Kong-based film companies and French distributors, allowing the festival to present rare classics, new releases, and independent works through official screening rights. With each edition, I strive to create a platform that not only celebrates Hong Kong cinema, but also connects artists, audiences, and ideas across continents. This journey continues to inspire me—challenging perceptions and deepening transnational understanding through film.

Hong Kong: Échos D’Une Ville

2024 | Arts Festival |  L'Auditorium Seynod , Annecy, France

My Role: Curator & Organizer

Hong Kong: Échos D’Une Ville is the first cultural programme in Annecy dedicated entirely to the artistic, historical, and emotional landscapes of Hong Kong. Curated and organized by Lok Kan Cheung, it was developed during her artist residency at ESAAA (through the French national PAUSE programme), and presented in collaboration with L’Auditorium Seynod, an official venue of the City Hall of Annecy (Mairie de Annecy). The programme centres on Hong Kong as a fragmented, resilient, and ever-transforming city, using the mythical and architectural memory of Kowloon Walled City as a metaphor for exile, resistance, and cultural survival. It creates a poetic space for reflecting on how memory and identity are carried forward through artistic expression.

The programme consists of three main components:

Cinema : Cinema:Un voyage cinématographique à travers le temps

A journey through Hong Kong cinema, from Wong Kar-Wai retrospectives to new works by emerging directors. The selection traces shifting aesthetics, identities, and urban imaginaries across time. Highlighted films include: (九龍城寨之圍城)– a recent cinematic reimagining of Kowloon Walled City blending action and myth. (燈火闌珊)– a tender story of memory, loss, and the city’s disappearing neon signs, reflecting the quiet resistance in everyday life. These films offer layered reflections on what it means to live, love, and remember in Hong Kong, past and present.
